Flying high after “Cesar Ritz”
Some of us have our feet firmly planted on the ground, but Lynn Chen, a Taiwanese graduate who now lives and works in Canada, literally took to the skies a few years after graduating and has been traveling the world ever since.
In November, I will take up my new position as Inflight Service Manager with Cathay Pacific Airways and will relocate to Toronto as my main route will be Toronto to Hong Kong. I am very proud to work for Cathay Pacific Airways as it is the “airline of the year 2006”. I have been flying for many years now but it took a few years to “get off the ground”.
When I graduated from “Cesar Ritz” in 1994, I joined the Shangri-La Hotel in Taipei. During two and a half years I learned a lot from the front office and in guest relations.  I also had the privilege to join their management-training course run over two months in Beijing as well as being part of the task force team for the pre-opening Trader Hotel in China.
With my education, being able to speak French and my experience in the hospitality industry, I was able to move to Canada in 1997. Not long after moving there, I found a job in Vancouver at the Sutton Place Hotel.
During this time, I was also offered a position as Flight Purser with Cathay Pacific Airways (also based in Vancouver) and decided to “take to the skies”. Since then I have been in the airline industry and have been promoted to Senior Purser. I really enjoy my flying experiences as I can travel around the world with a whole lot of freedom. 
I’m very grateful for the unique experiences I had in Switzerland and particularly at “Cesar Ritz” Colleges where I was able to learn how to work with people from different nationalities. Living in Canada, my second home, has also been wonderful.

我1996年畢業於“Cesar Ritz” ICHA (現在大學UCCR中心“Cesar Ritz” 酒店大學) 和在University of Massachusetts in Amherst麻州大學的理科完成學士學位，我第一份工作是在臺北市Crowne Plaza Hotel酒店擔任高級幹部。
只是在十二個月後，中華航空招聘我作為在其食品和飲料的部門主管。
當我2004年在同一部門被提升為總經理。 這給了我多次機會在總統班機上
服務總統到美國、 中南美洲和非洲飛往拜訪旅遊。 更重要的是，我獲得了菜單規劃表和管理全球供應商的經驗。

經過多種職業生涯上的技能經驗, 我高升到中華太平洋餐飲業務的中華航空附屬公司銷售處擔任經理.

2002 年，我通過了美國酒店及住宿協會AH & LA的考試，作為認證的食品和飲料行政職照和 2006 年獲得在北阿拉巴馬大學工商管理碩士學位。

Flying high thanks to “Cesar Ritz” Colleges
A “Cesar Ritz” Colleges graduate describes how his initial Bachelor’s degree from UCCR and the University of Massachusetts propelled him into a successful career in airline catering.
After graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science from the ICHA (now University Centre “Cesar Ritz”) and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, my first job was senior captain at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Taipei.
Just twelve months later, China Airlines recruited me as a supervisor in their food and beverages department.
Several years’ hard work paid off when I was promoted to General Manager of the same department in 2004. This gave me the opportunity to travel on the presidential flight to the United States, Central America and Africa. More importantly, I gained experience of planning menus and managing caterers worldwide.
 
The range of skills I learned over my career led to an appointment as Manager of the Marketing and Sales Department at China Pacific Catering Services, a subsidiary of China Airlines.
 
In 2002, I passed the American Hotel and Lodging Association exam as a Certified Food and Beverage Executive and in 2006 obtained my MBA degree at the University of North Alabama.
I’ll always be proud that it began at ICHA!
